Thought #7 — isn’t your guru annoying yet?

You’ve been inspired!

You watched Tony Robbins, you read Oprah, you listened to Gary V., whoever it was, there’s now a spark inside of you, you can see your future, it’s bright, it’s just out of reach, you can almost touch it. You feel the energy building up inside of you. This is it you say… LET’S DO THIS!!!

Ohh look at the time, MasterChef is about to start.

Inspirational content is great, whether it’s a book, a podcast, or a video, whichever method works for you, it can be a great way to kick your ass into gear. We know the world needs a lot of ass kicking, so a big thanks to those that choose to inspire us.

Now if you have moved on, and you are actually “doing it”, fan-bloody-tastic, good on you. You’re one of the lucky ones that got out. I wish you all the best.

But if you haven’t, if you are someone who just can’t get enough “inspiration”, without “action”, then you have a problem. You’re stuck. You’re stuck in the inspiration cycle. It’s like a drug. You watch a video and you get high, you have all these ideas, aspirations, goals, intentions, and then you come down, back to reality… your reality… I think I need another hit (let’s watch another YouTube video).

Just like any addiction, at some point YOU yourself have to come to the realisation that this is not helping. The realisation that you are stuck in a cycle. You go up, you come down, you go up, you come down, you go up, you come down. You’re stuck in an infinite inspiration loop.

Realisation #1

So the first realisation is realising you consume too much inspirational content.

Realisation #2

The second thing you need to realise is that, as great as ‘inspirational content’ is in kicking our ass into gear, it’s actually always the same message, repeated over and over again.

Yep, doesn’t matter who’s saying it, why they’re saying, what their experiences are, what their perspectives are, what medium they are using to deliver it, it’s the same underlying message.

Isn’t your guru annoying yet?

Are’t you tired of listening to the same message over and over again? If your guru doesn’t annoy you yet, then you obviously haven’t got the message, or your guru is so entertaining and charismatic that you just can’t help yourself (most of them are). Ok, keep watching, reading, listening.

But if you have understood the message then why are you reading another book?

It’s crazy how we continue to look for inspiration, self-help, self-improvement. We listen to one podcast, and then another, and then another. We buy a book, and then another, and then another. We download an app, and then another , and then another (realisation #1 — stuck in a cycle)

Geez! Aren’t you improved yet?

No wonder the self-improvement industry is estimated to be worth $13 Billion by 2022.

Interestingly, Millennials are the heart of the self-improvement industry’s growth. I guess they’re still looking for reassurance, from somebody, ANYBODY… hahaha, just kidding Millennials, mum still loves you, and you can be whatever you want to be (insert roflmao emoji).

So what’s the issue? Why are you watching another “inspirational” video? And if it’s sooo inspirational, why aren’t you inspired yet?

This brings us to the third realisation.

Realisation #3

The issue is…. wait for it… drum roll please….

The issue is… you don’t REALLY want it.

Yep, it’s that simple. You’re just fooling yourself. The necessity, the passion, the want, the craving, the hunger, it’s just not strong enough. If it was, you’d be doing it, you’d be doing it right now. And why is that, because you’re comfortable, because we live in a time where life isn’t really that tough. You don’t really have to struggle for much. Even people in “dire” circumstances can find comfort and security.

You are the boiling frog.

So what to do?

Well, how badly do you want it? I mean,

HOW BADLY DO YOU REALLY WANT IT??????????

Prove it.
